I've yet to come up with a detailed training plan for the century...but in my mind it goes something like this:
- Ride at least three times a week: one fast ride, one hilly ride, and one long ride
- Take a planned recovery week once a month
- Ride at least one 80-miler with plenty of hills
Fast ride will probably be around 30 miles -- done at a heart rate of 160+ bpm. For hilly rides, I'm thinking of incorporating hill repeats to simulate the effort required to climb 6,000 ft in 15 miles. Fortunately I have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to hilly roads in my neck of the woods.
Finally for the long rides, I'm hoping to work myself up to an 80-miler like this:
With 6,330 ft of climbing, it should serve as good practice ride for the big event.
